Dhaka, April 25 -- A Dhaka court has sent the father of Dhallywood actress Puja Chery to jail in a case over the alleged embezzlement of more than Tk 130 million.

The matter came to light on Saturday, when Cantonment Police chief Rakibul Hasan said they had arrested Debu Prasad Roy on Apr 16.

He was later produced before a court, which ordered that he be sent to jail, Rakibul said.

According to the case dossier, the suspect took Tk 55 million from a "friend" named Mizanur Rahman on Sept 15, 2019, claiming the money would be used for film production.

Showing the same ground, he later collected another Tk 5 million through Standard Islami Bank, formerly Standard Bank, and Tk 60 million in cash on May 15, 2024, against three non-judicial...
