Dhaka, Feb. 28 -- Police have arrested 42 people in capital Dhaka's Mohammadpur and Adabar on charges of extortion, theft, mugging and drug trafficking, as authorities continue operations to curb crime in the city.

The operation ran from 8pm to 12 midnight on Friday, Tejgaon Division's Deputy Commissioner Ibne Mizan told bdnews24.com.

"We have arrested 42 individuals from two police station areas. Our operation will continue. No extortionist, mugger or drug dealer will be allowed to operate," he said.

"We are keeping a close watch on 'Kishore Gang' and will not allow them to gain any foothold," the officer added.

Earlier, police carried out a sweep in Mohammadpur on Wednesday night, arresting around 100 individuals.
