4.5-magnitude earthquake originating from India's Assam strikes northern Bangladesh
Dhaka, May 9 -- A mild 4.5-magnitude earthquake has shaken Rangpur and surrounding northern districts.
The tremor occurred at 3:10pm on Saturday, according to the Seismic Observatory and Research Centre of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Md Rubaiyat Kabir, deputy director of the BMD's earthquake monitoring centre, confirmed the details to bdnews24.com.
The epicentre of the quake was located in the Indian state of Assam, approximately 271km north of the BMD's seismic centre in Dhaka's Agargaon.
While the tremor caused a brief moment of panic among residents in the northern region, there were no immediate reports of casualties or property damage.
