Dhaka, March 16 -- Thirty-five candidates who lost in the Feb 12 elections have challenged the results in the High Court, alleging several irregularities in the voting process.

On Monday, the bench of Justice Md Zakir Hossain, appointed to hear election-related cases, admitted the petitions separately and fixed them for hearing.

In the order admitting the cases, the court directed the Election Commission to preserve ballots, CCTV footage and related equipment from the concerned constituencies.

Notices have also been issued to the winning candidates.

Among those who filed the petitions are 21 candidates from the BNP, 12 from Jamaat-e-Islami, and one each from Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).
