Bangladesh, Sept. 11 -- The Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) has arrested three alleged members of a gold-smuggling ring with 861.8g of gold ornaments at Dhaka's Shahjalal International Airport.

The arrestees have been identified as Molla, 40, Sohag, 24, and Hasan Mia, 23.

In a statement on Friday, the Airport APBn said the three were moving "suspiciously" on a footpath near the airport roundabout on Thursday night.

They tried to flee after noticing police, but were detained, the APBn said.

A search found 861.8g of gold ornaments, comprising 21 and 22-carat gold.

The seized gold is worth more than Tk 12.5 million at current market prices, according to the APBn.
