Dhaka, March 1 -- Two workers have been killed after a crane cable snapped during unloading operations on the banks of the Shitalakshya River in Narayanganj's Rupganj.

The incident occurred in Ganganagar of Murapara Union at a river terminal used for handling Tricom Group's cargo.

The victims have been identified as Al-Amin, 32, and Al-Amin Mia, 26. Both hailed from the Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj district.

Rupganj Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Sadekur Rahman said the accident took place while the crane was being used to unload wheat from a vessel.

"Three workers were stationed directly beneath the crane. Suddenly, the cable snapped, causing the heavy grab to fall on them," the SI said, quoting witnesses.
