Dhaka, March 19 -- A crackdown on illegal stone extraction along the Teesta River has turned violent, as law enforcers, journalists and local leaders came under attack in Nilphamari's Dimla.
Upazila administrator (UNO) Md Imranuzzaman said the incident took place at Tepakhribari Union on Thursday, when a police van was vandalised and journalists covering the incident were also assaulted.
Police, Army and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members were later deployed in the location to calm the situation.
At least three policemen were initially reported injured, though a local police sub-inspector later said seven officers had been hurt.
