United Kingdom, June 11 -- YouTube is bringing back private messages for users 18 or older.

The video sharing platform previously discontinued its DMs feature in 2019 after just two years, but late last year the company started testing in-app messaging, which had been a "top feature request" from users.

This time, YouTube users will have to verify their age before accessing the feature, while they can only talk with someone after sending an invitation link on a third-party messaging platform.

If you click the Messages icon at the top right of the app, a link will appear, suggesting the feature is intended for users who already know each other.
