United Kingdom, May 12 -- Netflix has been sued by the state of Texas over claims it secretly collected user data without consent and used "addictive" platform features to keep viewers engaged.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused the streaming giant of "spying" on adults and children in the state while misleading users about its privacy practices.

The lawsuit, filed on Monday (11.05.26), alleges Netflix "records and monetises billions" of pieces of behavioural information gathered from users as they browse and watch content.

The complaint states: "When you watch Netflix, Netflix watches you."
