United Kingdom, May 21 -- Meta has reportedly laid off thousands of employees to offset its AI investments.

The tech giant has reduced its total company headcount by around 10 percent of its 78,000 workforce, with approximately 8,000 people losing their jobs, while more than 7,000 others will be moved within Meta to work on new AI initiatives.

As reported by Business Insider, an email from Meta management read: "As previously shared, we have decided to reduce headcount as part of our continued effort to run the company more efficiently and to allow us to offset the other investments we're making.

"Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated as part of today's reorganization.
