United Kingdom, July 24 -- Google has been hit with an €890m (£759m) fine by the European Union (EU) for allegedly favouring its own apps and services over rivals, in a landmark enforcement under the bloc's new Digital Markets Act (DMA).

The EU said Google's practices limited consumer choice and gave its services an unfair advantage.

Regulators split the penalty into two parts: €460m for promoting Google's flight and hotel booking services in search results, and €430m for Play Store rules that allegedly blocked users from seeing cheaper offers outside Google's ecosystem.

Google criticised the decision, saying compliance would harm services used by millions of Europeans.
