United Kingdom, Sept. 23 -- Prime Minister Andy Burnham has announced plans for a new UK centre to tackle hostile disinformation, including campaigns attributed to Russia, as he called for international cooperation on artificial intelligence safety.

Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Burnham said Russian agencies had used bots, fake websites and falsified media content to spread what he described as lies and disinformation.

Burnham told world leaders: "The Kremlin spends around £1.3 billion each year on manipulating information.

"They've used bots and fake websites, falsified newspaper articles, forged the branding of 28 British organisations, including universities and the BBC."
