United Kingdom, June 12 -- Tim Allen "never really wanted to be a dad".

The Toy Story 5 star is father to two daughters - Kate, 36, with his ex-wife Laura Deibel, and Elizabeth, 17, with his second wife Jane Hajduk - but Tim has confessed he has never been a "real fan of children" so becoming a dad was a steep learning curve for him.

He told Us Weekly magazine: "I never really wanted to be a dad. I joke about it on stage; I've just never been a real fan of children. As people have said many times about parenting, you go through all this [stuff] to get a driver's license or a passport, but there's nothing about [raising] children.

"It was a work in progress. My wife says we wish we'd had five kids because you learn on the first two."
