United Kingdom, Oct. 19 -- Tinashe doesn't chase external validation.

The 33-year-old singer - who released her new album, Popstar, in September - has revealed that she no longer seeks external validation.

She told Bustle: "I'd unsubscribed from it because I've never really had external validation in this type of way. I've never even sniffed the top 10 of a [major] Billboard chart. So that isn't something that I even like to know, let alone be concerned with.

"I was surprised by the reaction, honestly. People are like, 'Why are you surprised?!' And I'm like, 'Why wouldn't I be surprised?' The album doesn't feel particularly different from a creative standpoint. I think the reception is the difference, which is exciting to say the least...
