United Kingdom, March 24 -- Nicky Hilton regrets using tanning beds.

The 42-year-old fashion designer struggles to understand why she used to get her skin blasted with ultraviolet (UV) rays to achieve a bronzed look.

Asked if there is a time in her life she would forget, Nicky told the new issue of Britain's HELLO! magazine: "I mean, probably the tanning-bed era. When I look back at some of the photos, I was just ... very tanned.

"As someone who's so conscious of my skin and taking care of it, I can't believe that I would subject myself to that."

The star's mom, Kathy Hilton, 67, inspired her to have a career in the fashion and beauty industry.
