United Kingdom, March 19 -- Neil Sedaka's cause of death has been revealed, two weeks after he passed away at the age of 86.

The legendary singer-songwriter - who was best known for hits including Breaking Up Is Hard to Do, Oh! Carol, Calendar Girl, and Happy Birthday Sweet Sixteen, as well as writing songs for the likes of Connie Francis, The Monkees and ABBA - passed away on 27 February and now his death certificate has been published by the New York Post newspaper, which revealed he died as a result of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.

The condition is described as a build up of plaque in the arteries, which can lead to complications including blood clots, strokes, and kidney failure.
