United Kingdom, July 1 -- Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have played an important role in Mindy Kaling's weight-loss journey.

The 47-year-old star has recalled meeting Tina and Amy, two of her comedy "heroes", during her younger years, and Mindy took a lot of encouragement from their first-ever conversation.

Speaking on Amy's Good Hang podcast, Mindy recalled: "I don't know why I remember this story, and I'm not proud of it.

"I don't know why I would possibly come up with two women that I admire . but we were somewhere and I was like, 'Yeah, I just want to lose 30 pounds.'"

Mindy remembers Tina and Amy advising her that her weight-loss goal was too much.
