United Kingdom, Sept. 17 -- Jack Whitehall "tanked" his Harry Potter audition and has claimed the awkward moment proves "nepo parenting doesn't always work".

The 38-year-old comedian has recalled the moment his father Michael, who worked as an agent and producer, scored him a one-on-one meeting with the casting director rather than letting him attend an open casting at his school for the titular role of the so-called Boy Who Lived.

Appearing on the Capital Breakfast Show, Jack said: "They sent one of the casting directors to the school to audition a load of the kids there and my Dad, obviously being in the industry, was like, 'That is a complete waste of time, no one has ever been cast from an open audition.
