United Kingdom, July 17 -- Brenda Fricker has died age 81.

The Oscar-winning actress, best known for her roles in the likes of Home Alone 2: Lost In New York and My Left Foot, has passed away as her agent described it as an "honour" to "know, love and work with her".

In a statement, her agent Phil Belfield said: "We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her.

"I was honoured to know, love and work with her and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over."

Fricker won an Academy Award for her performance as Mrs Brown, the on-screen mother of Daniel Day-Lewis, in 1989's My Left Foot.

The role also earned her a nomination for a Golden Globe.
