United Kingdom, May 18 -- Caitriona Balfe had a "weird" fan encounter - while on the operating table.

The 46-year-old actress became a household name thanks to her role as Claire Fraser in Outlander - which she has starred in since it began in 2014 - and with the programme ending after eight seasons, she has looked back at her memorable moments but admitted she had one particular interaction with a fan that she'd rather not have gone through because she was having an operation at the time.

She told People magazine: "I think my weirdest one was an anesthesiologist who decided to start singing the theme tune to me as she was putting me under. That was a lot. She's supposed to be keeping me alive."
