United Kingdom, Sept. 24 -- Bill Nighy has let slip that he was once married.

The 76-year-old actor, who has been romantically linked with Dame Anna Wintour since 2015, has always denied ever having tied the knot, including during his 27-year relationship with Diana Quick, but he's now shared an anecdote in which he talked about losing his wedding ring.

Speaking on his Ill-Advised podcast, he said: "I can't wear rings because I've got funny hands.

"I was called Nux Nighy at school because I had knobbly knuckles.

"When I was married, I had a wedding ring, and I went into the sea and it came off. I had to wear such a big ring to get it over my knuckle that it came off in the sea. I lost the ring.
