United Kingdom, Aug. 17 -- The Simpsons creator Matt Groening has hinted that the classic video game The Simpsons: Hit and Run could be making a comeback.

During a Simpsons panel at Disney's D23 event, Groening was asked whether fans could expect a sequel to the 2003 open-world adventure game, which became a cult favourite thanks to its Grand Theft Auto-inspired gameplay and humour.

Groening said: "I don't know [if] I'm speaking out of turn, I think the original game is coming back in some form."

The comment immediately caught attention, although Simpsons showrunner Matt Selman quickly attempted to soften the statement by adding "or not" after Groening's answer.
