United Kingdom, Sept. 1 -- Rockstar Games has confirmed that players will not be forced to engage with the romantic side of Grand Theft Auto VI, despite the relationship between protagonists Jason and Lucia playing a major role in the upcoming crime epic's story.

Speaking to IGN, Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson explained that the pair's connection is central to the narrative but will not become a mandatory gameplay system.

Players who want to focus purely on action, exploration and criminal chaos will be able to do so without being penalised.

Nelson said: "I have to say it feels great, if you are into it as a concept. Don't bother with it if you aren't. Up to you."
