India, July 18 -- Battery-as-a-Service, or BaaS, is one of those ideas that sounds complicated but is actually beautifully simple. You buy the car. The company keeps the battery. Then you pay a small per-kilometre fee for using it, typically somewhere between Rs 2.60 and Rs 4.50 per km, depending on the model. Because the battery is the most expensive part of any electric car, accounting for a huge chunk of the sticker price. With BaaS, that cost disappears from your upfront payment, slashing the ex-showroom price by 30 to 40 percent. Suddenly, cars that were sitting uncomfortably above your budget are well within reach.
