India, Aug. 5 -- The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has withdrawn its earlier communication on E20 fuel quality after clarifying that portions of the document were selectively quoted in media reports, creating an incomplete picture of the issue. The industry body said the July 28 communication formed part of routine technical discussions between vehicle manufacturers, oil marketing companies (OMCs), testing agencies and other stakeholders.

SIAM also reaffirmed its support for the Government of India's E20 ethanol-blended petrol programme, stating that there is no reason for consumers to worry and that existing fuel quality monitoring systems remain robust.
