India, Oct. 23 -- India could make automatic emergency braking mandatory for all passenger cars from October 1, 2032, under a proposal from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). The draft amendment to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, outlines a phased introduction of Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS), giving manufacturers time to update their vehicles before the requirement extends across the existing model range. The proposal also covers steering and lane-keeping technologies, with separate deadlines for different systems and vehicle categories. The ministry has opened the draft for public consultation, allowing stakeholders to submit their objections and suggestions before the rules are finalised.
