New York, Sept. 10 -- Alexander Zverev stormed into the US Open semifinals for the third time in his career with a commanding 6-2, 7-5, 6-1 victory over Botic van de Zandschulp on Wednesday (local time).

The German top seed needed little more than two hours to dispatch the Dutchman and continued his impressive run in a season that has already seen him claim his maiden Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.

Zverev was particularly effective in the crucial moments of the second set, where van de Zandschulp threatened to make a comeback. At 3-2, the Dutchman earned his first break point of the match, but Zverev stayed composed and won a gruelling 33-shot rally to deny the opportunity.
