Rohtak, Aug. 1 -- Pugilist Preeti Pawar has added India's first boxing gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Glasgow on Saturday. Previously an Asian Games bronze medalist, the 22-year-old's first gold at one of the marquee multi-sport events has come years after overcoming societal barriers and several other roadblocks, including a bout of hepatitis ahead of the Paris Olympics 2024 and, most importantly, her own mind.
The 2022 Asian Games bronze medalist Preeti secured the women's 54kg gold medal at the CWG 2026 after defeating Canada's Scarlett Delgado by unanimous decision in the final on Saturday.
