Mumbai, Sept. 11 -- The time has come for Indian payment system providers and network operators to begin moving towards quantum-proofing payment systems, Reserve Bank of India Deputy Governor Shirish Chandra Murmu said on Friday, as he called for early preparation against risks that quantum computing could pose to existing financial security systems.

"The time has therefore come for Indian payment system providers and network operators to begin moving towards quantum-proofing our payment systems," Murmu said while delivering a keynote address at the Global FinTech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
