Tiruchirappalli, Sept. 2 -- In a remarkable life-saving effort, a donated heart was transported from Madurai to the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College Hospital at Siruvachur in Perambalur district, covering a distance of around 178 km in just 1 hour and 54 minutes.

The heart was donated by a 23-year-old youth who was declared brain dead while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Madurai.

The heart began its journey from Madurai at 10.28 a.m. and reached the Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan Medical College Hospital at 12.22 p.m.
