New Delhi, Sept. 22 -- The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL challenging the 2018 amendment to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, which restored stringent provisions governing arrest and anticipatory bail in cases under the law.

A bench of Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and V Mohana noted that the amendment had already been upheld by the Supreme Court in its 2020 judgment, which had also laid down safeguards against misuse of the Act.
