Ahmedabad, July 18 -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed grief over the loss of lives in a mishap at a fireworks factory in Ahmedabad and announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

A massive fire broke out at an unlicensed fireworks manufacturing unit near Mehmudpura on the Ramol-Gatrad Road in Ahmedabad, leaving at least eight people dead and several others injured, officials said.
