Tiruchirappalli, May 23 -- Tamil Nadu Minister Ramesh on Saturday said that a special inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the death of a nursing student following a surgery at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Trichy.

The minister visited the hospital after protests erupted by students and relatives of the deceased, who alleged medical negligence and demanded strict action against the doctors involved in the treatment.

Speaking to reporters, Ramesh said, "A special committee has been constituted to conduct an inquiry into the surgery performed on the student. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings submitted by the committee."
