New Delhi, April 24 -- The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognisance of boiler tube explosion incident at a thermal power plant in the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh on April 14.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of violation of the human rights of the victims.

Therefore, it has issued notices to the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks. It is expected to include the status of the disbursement of compensation to the affected workers as well as the health of those injured, according to an official release from the National Human Rights Commission.
