New 'blockbuster' tuberculosis vaccines could save seven million by 2050: Gavi
New Delhi, Sept. 15 -- Next-generation tuberculosis (TB) vaccines, expected to become available from 2029, could save an estimated 7.3 million lives between 2030 and 2050 and generate up to USD 135 billion in economic benefits across low and middle-income countries, according to a new analysis by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance.
In its Early Market Shaping Roadmap for novel TB Vaccines, Gavi said the new vaccines could become one of the most impactful immunisation tools in decades in the fight against the world's deadliest infectious disease.
Gavi warned that immediate action is needed to ensure countries with the highest TB burden have access to vaccines in sufficient quantities once they become available.
