Nepal jolted by 5.0 earthquake amid ongoing flood rescue efforts as death toll reaches 1,366
Kathmandu, Sept. 8 -- A moderate earthquake of magnitude 5.0 jolted parts of Nepal late Tuesday evening.
According to official data from the National Centre of Seismology, the seismic activity occurred at 9:38 PM IST.
The epicentre was recorded at latitude 29.022deg N and longitude 83.978deg E in northwestern Nepal. The event registered at a depth of 143 kilometres below the surface.
Due to the relatively deep focus of the earthquake, surface impact is expected to be limited. No immediate casualties or major structural damage have been reported as the situation is being assessed.
