Los Angeles, Aug. 29 -- Nashville could soon have an airport named after one of Tennessee's most beloved stars. Three days after the death of the 80-year-old country music icon Dolly Parton, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has announced plans to rename Nashville International Airport in her honour, Variety reported.

Governor Lee and the Nashville International Airport officials announced the proposal in a joint statement on Friday, saying they intend to begin the process of changing the airport's name.

Dolly Parton, who was born in rural Tennessee and later moved to Nashville, had won 10 Grammy awards and sold 100 million records worldwide, including hits like Coat of Many Colors, 9 to 5, Jolene, and I Will Always Love You.
