MoSPI rejects claim that last year's GDP was revised down to boost Q1 FY27 growth
New Delhi, Sept. 2 -- The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) on Wednesday rejected claims that last year's GDP estimate was revised down to make economic growth in the first quarter of FY27 appear stronger, saying the change was the result of a new base year, improved data sources and updated methodology.
The clarification came after questions were raised over the revision of GDP at current prices for Q1 FY26 from Rs 86.05 lakh crore under the earlier 2011-12 base-year series to Rs 80 lakh crore under the latest 2022-23 series.
