New Delhi, Oct. 13 -- Microsoft will scale its in-house Azure Maia AI chip family to multi-gigawatt deployments from 2027, aiming to make it the primary system for running artificial intelligence models across its products and services, as the technology major steps up efforts to improve AI performance and energy efficiency.

Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella announced the plan in a post on X, describing it as the company's "biggest bet yet on our own silicon". He also introduced Maia 300, which the company expects to deliver 40 per cent more tokens per watt than leading GPU-based systems.
