McDonald backs Lyon after rough Darwin outing, cautions against hasty changes despite loss to Bangladesh
Melbourne, Aug. 17 -- Australian head coach Andrew McDonald has backed spinner Nathan Lyon after a tough outing in the first Darwin Test against Bangladesh, pointing out that the opposition was really "patient and disciplined" in their approach against the Aussie attack, including Lyon, when the pitch was not doing its tricks for the veteran spinner.
Australian spin legend Lyon, having clinched 568 wickets at an average of 30.32, struggled for wickets and impact during the Test loss against Bangladesh in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship 2025-27 series. The bowler could produce figures of 1/125, as compared to his counterpart off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had a match-sealing five-wicket haul later in the match.
