Lucknow, Sept. 28 -- Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Monday raised concerns over the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), saying that voters must have no doubt that their votes could be diverted to or counted for another candidate, as such an occurrence would undermine faith in the democratic system.

Speaking at a press conference, Mayawati said that ensuring voters have confidence in the electoral process was crucial to protecting the democratic system.

"It is crucial that the voter harbours no doubt that their vote might have been diverted to or counted for another candidate; such an occurrence would effectively amount to the murder of democracy and would destroy the people's faith in the democratic system," she said....
