Kozhikode, Sept. 13 -- Keralam Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph said every effort was being made to address the ongoing electricity shortage in the state, adding that the government was also considering purchasing power at higher rates if necessary.

Speaking to the media, Joseph said several states were facing electricity shortages and that Keralam's power consumption this year was around 1,000 MW higher than last year, while power generation had not increased correspondingly.

"If electricity has to be purchased at a higher price, a plan will be prepared accordingly," the Minister said, adding that the current situation highlighted the need for a new policy on electricity.
