Washington DC, June 29 -- Actor James Norton is set to take on the iconic role of Hamlet in a new London West End production of William Shakespeare's classic tragedy, to be directed by acclaimed German theatre director Thomas Ostermeier, Variety reported.

The production, backed by Wessex Grove and Gavin Kalin Productions, is scheduled to open in the West End in fall 2027. The theatre venue and performance dates are yet to be announced.

The staging will mark Ostermeier's first time directing a Shakespeare play in English. The Schaubuhne Berlin artistic director previously directed a German-language production of Hamlet that has toured internationally for the past 18 years, Variety reported.
