Indian equities open higher tracking global cues; Sensex gains over 200 points, Nifty hovers around 24,300
Mumbai, Aug. 24 -- The Indian equity markets started the week on a positive note, tracking positive global cues. Both the benchmark indices opened with a gap-up; Sensex up over 200 points while Nifty was hovering around 24,300 level amid easing oil prices.
Sensex opened at 77,629.56 against previous close of 77,540.83 and was trading at around 77,774.29, up 233.46 points or 0.30 per cent, at the time of reporting. Nifty opened at 24,285.05 against the previous close of 24,252 and was trading at around 24,300 at the time of reporting.
All broad market indices traded in the green; sectorally, most indices traded in the green while auto, pharma, FMCG, PSU Bank, healthcare, consumer durables, and cement were under pressure.
