New Delhi, Sept. 26 -- India's tourism sector is expected to play a growing role in economic activity and employment as the country expands its digital tourism ecosystem, with the sector contributing 5.22 per cent to GDP and supporting 8.46 crore jobs in 2023-24, the government said ahead of World Tourism Day 2026.

The government highlighted the growing use of digital platforms and artificial intelligence (AI) to make travel more personalised, accessible and seamless. World Tourism Day will be observed on September 27 under the theme "Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism", placing technology at the centre of discussions around the future of the sector.
