Google Translate gets real-time two-way translation and hands-free upgrades
Washington, Sept. 5 -- Google has introduced major upgrades to Live Translate in its Google Translate app, bringing real-time, two-way conversational audio and on-screen text translation to Android and iOS users.
According to Google, the upgrades are designed to make conversations across languages more seamless, with Live Translate now supporting more than 70 languages, including Hindi, Arabic, French, Korean, Spanish and Tamil.
A key addition is Gemini-powered speech intelligence. Google says its advanced speech recognition and multimodal Gemini models can help isolate background noise in environments such as busy cafes and airports, while also recognizing accents, intonation and conversational pauses.
