Delhi HC refuses to entertain PIL seeking tax on agricultural income in Delhi
New Delhi, May 13 -- The Delhi High Court has refused to entertain a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions to the authorities to impose tax on agricultural income in the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
A bench comprising Chief Justice DK Upadhyaya and Justice Tejas Karia declined to issue a mandamus directing the government to formulate a policy for taxing agricultural earnings in Delhi.
During the hearing, the court termed the petition "highly misconceived" and refused to interfere in matters relating to tax policy. The bench observed that the court could not direct the government to frame legislation or introduce a taxation regime through judicial orders.
