Beijing, Sept. 9 -- China has introduced a new law aimed at strengthening ethnic unity, but the legislation has raised fresh concerns over the future of the Uyghur community, according to a report by Voice of Uyghurs.

The Ethnic Unity and Progress Promotion Law came into force on July 1, after being approved by China's top legislature in March. According to the report, Beijing says the law is intended to promote equality, reduce discrimination and encourage development among China's 56 ethnic groups.
