New Delhi, Aug. 25 -- The Central government has moved to ban Carbosulfan insecticide, which is widely used on paddy, cotton, and horticulture crops in India, as per an official gazette notification issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

Citing concerns over its toxicity and risks to human health and the environment, the Ministry proposed a draft order for a complete ban on the insecticide, including the prohibition on the import, manufacture, sale, transport, distribution and use of Carbosulfan from the date of its publication.

It also directed the Registration Committee to recall all certificates of registration granted for the insecticide.
