Ottawa, Oct. 18 -- A fire that broke out within the training area of Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright in Alberta has resulted in fatalities and injuries, with authorities continuing to assess the full extent of the incident.

According to a press release issued by CFB Wainwright on Sunday, the fire ignited at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time on October 17 and spread rapidly beyond the boundaries of the military training area, prompting a response from military and civilian emergency services.

In its press release, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) said emergency responders were working to control the fire and support those affected by the incident.
